In the early 1920s, portrait artist Gerda Wegener asks her husband Einar Wegener, a popular landscape artist to stand like a female model. So that she can complete her unfinished painting work. When the painting gained popularity and the model become famous, Einar started slowly change his appearance to a female character named himself Lili Elbe. Also he tried to behave like a female character by imitating actions and style from the society. Einar is very much interested as well as attracted being as a female model. With the support of Gerda, Einar underwent male to female surgery. That slowly changes his life.
